Steamy weedkiller PDF E-mail

green steam weed cleanerSome hefty-looking machines known as Green Steam Weed Killers will soon patrol the streets of San Francisco, annihilating unwanted weeds without the use of pesticides.  The work of a Canadian manufacturer, the high-tech gardening machines are the first of their kind.  Each machine runs on a couple of gallons of water, a 12-volt battery, and a small propane tank. The maker says that the direct application of high-temperature stream ‘explodes the cells’ of the offending plant, killing it down to its roots. The machines work well on pavement intruders that are surrounded by concrete. It used to be that when a bank of sprawling weeds automatically meant an application of some heavy-duty weedkiller but no longer. Solid wheels allow the machines to be easily carted around, and a brake prevents downhill runaways. - inhabitat
